One of our own CSG experts Dr Stuart Atkinson is currently undertaking a leading role in this year’s ‘I’m a Scientist, Get Me Out of Here’ – an online event that enables students from UK schools to meet and interact with scientists. We are following his progress throughout the competition which runs until 18th March 2016. See the latest from Stuart below:

“In “I’m a Scientist, Get Me Out of Here!” we’ve had a week of online questions and fast paced 30 minute chats. In that time I’ve been asked everything from ‘Who is your favourite member of One Direction?’ to ‘How do you remove freckles?’ And aside from asking me which is my favourite Stars Wars film several times (it’s Episode V of course!) we’ve had some really good questions, particularly about how we deal with hazardous waste as a company and how we protect ourselves and the environment.

What is already coming out of the competition is how interested the school children are in science, shown by the diversity of their questions, some of which they have obviously put a lot of thought into.

One question that keeps coming up is ‘What makes a good scientist?’ and the answer is always ‘Just keep asking questions and keep an open mind – don’t take anything or anybody’s word for granted’.

I’m doing my best to give intelligent, inspiring and sometimes amusing answers to their questions, and hopefully gather a lot of their votes along the way. Tuesday 15th March sees the first eviction from the Toxicology Zone, leaving only 4 people in the competition.
