Pool table donation the cue for celebration at Teesside Youth Club

A leading waste management specialist has chalked up a win for children in Teesside by donating a pool table to a local youth club.

CSG, which has a base in Middlesbrough, has gifted the table to the youth club at the Corus Sports & Social Centre in Dormanstown, Redcar.

The youth club is run by The Ladies of Steel, a community group of seven volunteers.

Founded in 2004, the group plays a valuable role in the community, running a fortnightly social for pensioners as well as hosting special events throughout the year.

CSG provided the club with the new pool table through its Community Chest scheme, which supports good causes across the company’s 30 UK sites.

Debbie Powlay, Chair of the Ladies of Steel, said the donation was a huge boost for local children.

She said: “Our old pool table had been used too much and it was a bit run down. This new one gives the kids such a good outlet to get them off the streets to come and play inside.

“It helps to increase their confidence as well as their social awareness, and that is vital – it has a really big impact on them.

“We are so grateful for the support from CSG, as we are always looking for donations for new things for the kids to play with. Accidents happen from time to time and everything gets used so much.

“The kids have really enjoyed using the pool table since the youth club reopened after they returned to school.”

CSG helps households and organisations by offering a complete variety of services ranging from waste collection through to treatment, recovery and disposal of countless waste streams.

Its Middlesbrough-based operation specialises in processing and correctly disposing of oily water, interceptor waste, marine waste, engine oil and coolants from manufacturers, primarily in Teesside, Newcastle and North Yorkshire.

Daryl Tunningley, Marketing Manager at CSG, said: “We are pleased to support the Ladies of Steel and the great work they do in the community.

“This is the latest donation CSG has made to a local area through the Community Chest scheme and we hope the children have great fun using the pool table. It is great to support these kinds of organisations.”
