CSG continues investment in growing fleet

Leading waste management specialist CSG has invested millions of pounds to upgrade its fleet, boosting capacity while helping to improve both efficiency and safety.
With an operational fleet of around 300 vehicles of various types and sizes from vans to artic tankers, investment is an ongoing process.
So far this year the business has invested between £3m and £4m to replace six trucks and four articulated trailers.
This included three 4,000-gallon ADR Scania tankers and one 2,000-gallon sewage DAF tanker.
Additionally, CSG has added four newly built 40,000-litre articulated tankers, consisting of two standard stainless-steel models and two glass-lined models designed for acid transport.
Jason Flay, Fleet Engineering Manager at CSG, said: “We have a large and varied fleet of vehicles so keeping them maintained and up-to-date is an ongoing task.
“This year has been particularly busy as we work through replacing the ’66 plates and adding to the fleet.
“There are more vehicles to come this year, including three more 4,000-gallon ADR Scanias, two more 4,000-gallon non-ADR Scanias and two 2,000-gallon sewage tankers.
“Our vehicles cover a significant number of miles every year, so it is a constantly evolving picture, but it’s a pleasure to be involved in a business which maintains and upgrades its fleet to such a high standard.”
CSG specialises in both household sewage services, including septic tank emptying, and specialist industrial and commercial waste services.
Each vehicle chassis is replaced over an eight-to-10-year cycle, depending on mileage. The tanks are stainless steel and last longer than the chassis, so the tanks are remounted onto new chassis until they too need to be replaced.
This rolling upgrade programme helps to ensure all vehicles are equipped with the latest driver assistance technology, improving safety and lowering emissions.
As CSG continues to grow, the business is investing in a new fleet management system which brings all vehicle compliance into one place, including maintenance and legislation.
Jason said: “The new fleet management system is now being used by our transport depots in the Midlands, Southwest, Southern and Southeast regions, with the remaining depots to be implemented by the end of July.
“This will help to make managing the fleet more streamlined by ensuring each depot is doing everything in exactly the same way, using the same software.”
