Waste company feeling flush with £11,000 donation to global toilet charity

Waste management specialist CSG has donated thousands of pounds to Toilet Twinning, the charity that provides toilets and clean water facilities to communities in developing countries.
For the second year, CSG committed to donating 50p for every household septic tank that it emptied – and this year it has raised £11,000, matching last year’s total.
Jen Cartmell, treatment director for CSG, said: “As a business that specialises in waste management, supporting the Toilet Twinning charity was a natural fit and we are pleased to have matched last year’s donation.
“More than 1.7 billion people do not have somewhere safe and hygienic to go to the toilet and every day more than 700 children under five die from diarrhoea linked to unsafe water, sanitation and poor hygiene.
“It’s easy to forget how important it is to have safe sanitation facilities: according to the World Health Organisation, for every pound spent on water and sanitation, £5.50 is returned to the community through increased productivity and reduced health costs. For us, it’s heartening to know our donations over the last couple of years are making a real positive difference to these vulnerable communities.”
Toilet Twinning says people without proper toilets and clean water are more likely to become sick through sanitation-related diseases, which results in them being unable to work. Children also miss school through illness or because they are collecting water.
Its water and sanitation projects enable families to build a toilet, have access to clean water, and to learn about handwashing and other hygiene principles.
