A national waste management group is putting the spotlight on Health and Safety with a week of training and activities for its staff.

CSG, specialists in household, commercial and industrial waste management, is hosting the event as part of its pledge to deliver the highest possible standards in health and safety

The focus week runs from Tuesday 3rd to Friday 6th April and all members of staff will be taking part, from management to operatives, drivers to office staff.

The week address four focus areas; vehicle and pedestrian safety, health and wellbeing, risk assessment and a positive health and safety culture within the working environment. Workshops will include vehicle hazards, risk assessment, as well as health and wellbeing drop-in sessions and site tours – enabling staff to understand all aspects of CSG’s operations.

In addition, a special scheme will also see the company’s network of professional drivers and staff receiving advice on maintaining the correct hydration levels while out on the road, as part of CSG’s commitment to caring for all its staff.

The business runs from more than 27 facilities across the UK, with a team of drivers, operatives and specialist consultants working together on the goal of diverting waste from landfill by recovering and recycling as much as possible.

Sarah Taylor, compliance manager for CSG said “In an operational waste management environment, it is crucial that health and safety procedures are followed every day of the year.

“Our dedicated week of activities will act as a refresher for staff and ensure that they are fully up to date on key aspects of health and safety. It will also draw attention to the additional precautions we are taking as a company to prevent accidents and ill-health, across the country.”

CSG was founded as a one-man sewage collection business in rural Hampshire more than 80 years ago and now employs a national workforce of nearly 500 people.

Neil Richards, CSG managing director, said: “At CSG we want to create and maintain a safe and healthy working environment for all.

“From first aid to hazard identification, our health and safety week will reinforce the best possible practise.

“It’s not about ticking boxes for our company, it is about keeping our employees happy and safe at work. Not only that, but we want to provide our customers with the reassurance that we are doing everything we possibly can to protect our staff and the environment.”

The CSG group already owns brands such as industrial cleaning experts Willacy Oil Services, print waste management specialists J & G Environmental and Oil Monster.
