Investing in People Pays Dividends for Waste Managers

A waste management group has been rewarded with a national quality mark for the way in which it “appreciates and values” its staff.
Fareham-based independent company CSG has gained the quality standard Investors in People (IIP) for its key Transport Operations Division after assessors praised the organisation’s “people management practices”.
Investors in People is a scheme designed to boost business performance by improving staff management, employee satisfaction, motivation and access to training and development.
The successful division includes CSG’s nationwide waste haulage operation carried out by a fleet of 130 specialist vehicles.
IIP assessors said they were “totally satisfied” that the division met the national standard, with “people management practices having been embedded particularly around communications, leadership and management development as well as feedback mechanisms.”
They reported that “people felt appreciated and valued due to the support they were receiving from managers” as well as describing how CSG demonstrated recognition through a bonus scheme, pay rises, the provision of health care and a good pension contribution by the organisation.
The company was also applauded for the way in which it had created a culture of trust, openness and transparency by sharing information about its successful trading figures and encouraging staff to air their views at regular communications meetings.
