Cadishead lab team lead the re-design their own workspace

At CSG we have a regularly quoted saying – “it’s all about the people”.
And that is never more true than when we are planning for the future of our business. It has even become one of our core values. After all, if our people are not fully engaged with the vision for CSG, how can we expect them to deliver the exceptional service our customers deserve?
Our people enable us to offer high quality services. We develop people and teams who work together and take genuine pride in the job.
Our people want to offer a first-class service to our customers. It is our job to empower and support our employees to be able to deliver a top-quality service. Part of this is ensuring that our employees have the necessary tools and equipment to do their job.
So, when the laboratory at Cadishead needed some investment, who better to lead on the design of improvements than the specialist chemists that work there, day in and day out?
Cathy Jones, who has worked in the Cadishead lab for 16 years, led the project on behalf of the team of three chemists based at this site.
She is very passionate about the results. See our before and after pictures below.
“Every month we test around 300 chemical samples sent in by customers, which often is hazardous materials. In our lab we test the samples so that we can advise on safe disposal or recovery of the contents,” she said.
On top of the sample’s customer send to us, the lab is also responsible for testing the approximately 20 tankers arriving at our site a day.
Every month the team handles some 700 individual samples, and having a lab that ensures efficient workflow is crucial.
“When we were given the opportunity to upgrade to the laboratory, we jumped at the chance to improve the ergonomic design. We wanted to create a better layout to support a more efficient workflow.
“We are really proud to welcome customers to our fresh new facility. It reflects the professional service we offer to our customers.”
The upgrade is part of a £1.3million overall site investment. We have also installed of a new filterpress and replaced the roofs work on our 50-year-old tanks.
CSG treatment director Jen Cartmell added:
“Last year alone, the Cadishead site took in more than 80,000 tonnes of waste. Our laboratory plays a critical role in the success of our operation. The lab is also critical for safe and compliant waste disposal and treatment.
“It was important to us to consult the team working within this department. Enabling them to be fully engaged in improving their own workspace and ensuring they have a professional environment where they are proud and happy to work.
“Cadishead is our flagship facility and it’s making a substantial contribution to the company’s growth and success. We recognised that further investment was needed to secure the long-term viability of the site.
“This ongoing investment represents our commitment as a business to look for innovative technology to accept, process and recover as many waste streams as possible, and reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill.”
We offer a complete chemical waste collection and processing service to a wide range of customers.
Our fleet of specialist vehicles can collect and remove all types of waste chemicals from customer premises. Whether they are presented in small containers, drums, IBCs or in bulk liquid form. We also have a team of mobile ADR chemists who specialise in sorting, packing and collecting laboratory waste from customer sites.
Once the waste arrives at our licensed treatment facility, our team of chemists analyse it in our newly upgraded lab. Then we determine the best possible treatment route. We’re dedicated to waste treatment and recovery solutions over disposal options. This means our services will ensure that the waste your organisation produces has the least possible impact on the environment.
