Who are they?
Mulberry, founded in 1971, is an iconic global British lifestyle brand, well-known for their leather bags and accessories. Wardrobes across the world contain their famous designs, including several celebrities and even the British monarchy.
The company aims to provide well-designed and good quality products that are truly made to last.
Mulberry is devoted to reducing their environmental impact and have signed the UN Fashion Charter for Climate Action. They aim to have achieved net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2035.
By encompassing a science-based approach they have carefully adopted manufacturing techniques aimed at reducing waste materials. Mulberry work with a local Scrapstore to supply offcuts and various other materials to local schools, universities, and craft groups to minimise the number of materials becoming waste.
Their two UK factories also work with zero waste to landfill providers, like CSG.
What do we do for them?
Mulberry is proud to be the largest manufacturer of luxury leather goods in the UK. They support and train a community of craftspeople across two factories in Somerset, where over 50% of their bags are made.
CSG provides liquid waste collection and recovery services for their two UK factories.
One of CSG’s primary services is to regularly collect a watery ink solution from both factories. The waste arises when their machine for coating the edge of the leather is cleaned out. The ink solution is transported to our licensed waste treatment facility in Bristol. The ink waste is treated and receives a Recovery code, which means the treated waste is used as a resource in the production of other materials.
CSG also sends industrial tankers to their site annually to collect oil, sludge, and wastewater from their interceptors. CSG transport the waste safely to one of our oil treatment plants, where we treat the oil with chemicals and separate it from sludge and water. The recovered oil can then be used again, in other processes.
CSG has also attended promptly when the Mulberry’s tanks have needed emptying ahead of schedule.
In their own words.
Rebecca Box, Property Manager said:
“The whole team are a credit to CSG, from Megan and Michael to the tanker drivers, nothing is too much trouble. We always had scheduled collections until March 2020, we then needed to stop the schedule for a while. During this time the CSG team worked seamlessly with me and supported all my last-minute cries for empties until we got ourselves back in to a proper schedule. It is good to know the water used during the treatment of our waste goes on to be reused and that another one of our waste partners is working hard as we are to reduce the impact of our minimal but unavoidable liquid manufacturing waste. “
