A senior member of staff at CSG has celebrated 30 years with the leading waste management specialist.
Gloucester-based Dave Earl, Group Technical Manager and Group Oil Treatment Plant Manager, started at CSG on April Fool’s Day 1996.
The 56-year-old has since helped guide CSG to huge growth, including the turnaround of fortunes of the company’s oil treatment plants.
Dave said: “I had been travelling and needed to recoup some money so took the job as a Chemist at a site CSG had in Gloucestershire.
“Needless to say, I didn’t for a second think I’d still be here 30 years later.
“I have stayed because it is such a varied role. My education was originally in chemistry I then did a degree in Environmental Science, and I think I have used every part of it within my job. Not many people can say that.
“The people at CSG make the difference. It’s a family-owned business and people really do support each other.
“I had a good relationship with Neil Richards (former Managing Director) – he was an excellent manager. More recently Jen has taken over and has carried on in the same light.”
After a few months as Chemist, Dave moved on to become Night Shift Supervisor and Chemist before becoming Assistant Manager of the Upper Parting site after two years.
A devastating fire closed the site in 2000 and it was sold in 2003, Dave then worked from home as Group Environmental Manager for three years, obtaining permits for all sites as Waste Management Licensing ended.
He took on the additional role of Group Oil Treatment Plant Manager in 2006, helping to accelerate that part of the business’ profitability from five-figures to seven-figures.
After nearly 10 years working from home Dave moved into an office in central Gloucester to facilitate the expansion of the Environmental Team
Dave added: “There are always new issues and opportunities to deal with but we crack on together and do what we can, knowing we have had many successes over the years.
“I am just one of many in my team and across the Group, who have been here for 20-years-plus, so that tells its own story.”
With more than 650 employees across 30 UK locations, CSG helps households and organisations by offering a complete variety of services ranging from waste collection through to treatment, recovery and disposal of countless waste streams.
