Irlam school receives play equipment boost

Children at a Greater Manchester school will be able to learn construction skills through play when they return after the summer break – thanks to a generous donation from a specialist waste management company.

Irlam Primary School, on Liverpool Road, has received £600 from CSG through the business’ Community Chest scheme, which seeks to support good causes around its 30 UK bases.

The school has used the gift to make much-needed improvements to its outdoor construction area, where pupils can use different materials to build.

Items purchased include giant coloured pieces to construct towers and forts, creative crates, rope ladders and sweeping brushes.

Helen Gee, Nursery Teacher at Irlam Primary School, said: “We’re extremely grateful to CSG for their generosity. It has made a significant difference to our construction area and the children will be very excited when they return from their holidays.

“We have also been able to buy new equipment for our water and maths areas, including giant magnifying lenses, plastic teapots and paint rollers.

“These areas are designed to spur imaginations while fostering teamwork and improving motor skills but we were desperate for resources to make them more engaging.

“It’s wonderful to see a local company getting involved with the community in this way.”

The school was nominated by CSG sales-coordinator Bernadette Farnworth and her husband Derek, a site operative at the company, who have grandsons at the school.

Other members of the CSG Cadishead team also have family members at the school.

CSG helps households and organisations by offering a complete variety of services ranging from waste collection through to treatment, recovery and disposal of countless waste streams.

Its Cadishead facility is a significant employer and processes more than 100,000 tonnes of waste each year.

Daryl Tunningley, Marketing Manager at CSG, said: “Our Community Chest programme has already supported good causes with thousands of pounds in 2025. It’s a privilege to be able to give back to the local communites around our network of nationwide facilities.

“We were impressed with Irlam Primary School’s commitment to making learning fun and hope these new materials are well received.”
