Junior footballers bag sponsorship boost

A junior football club in Irlam has scored big by securing sponsorship from a major local employer.
Irlam FC’s under-sevens team has bagged £400 from leading waste management specialist CSG.
The money has been spent on smart new training wear for the players as they prepare for their first season of competitive football in the Manchester Youth Super League.
“It’s a fantastic boost for the club and the players to receive this generous donation from CSG,” said team coach Dean Burgess.
“We have been playing friendlies but now we’re preparing for our first season in a competitive league. This training wear and the match day jumpers will give the team a real lift.
“Irlam FC is a great club and believes in opportunities for all. My dad played for the club, then I did and now my son plays for the team I coach.
“The first team plays in the North West Counties Premier Division so it provides a good platform for people to progress in the game as far as they want.”
The Silver Street club was founded in 1969 by a group of employees working for Mitchell, Shackleton and Company Limited, a well-established engineering company based in Patricroft, Eccles, which manufactures marine and diesel crankshafts.
The club changed its name to Irlam FC in 2001 ahead of a relocation to the Salford suburb.
Daryl Tunningley, Marketing Manager at CSG, said: “We’re delighted to support Irlam FC, which is a great club for hundreds of people in the local area.
“CSG is celebrating 90 years in business this year. The company has always played an active role in the areas in which we are based but last year launched the Community Chest programme as a new way of offering financial support to good causes.
“We have already donated thousands of pounds through the programme and plan to support many more organisations moving forward.”
